Mt Aspiring
The death of Dylan Fargher over the weekend was a tragedy. He was a charming, witty, loyal and respected member of the College Hostel and Mount Aspiring College Community in 2005.
Dylan’s close friends have this week recalled his many qualities. They speak of a young man who could make anyone smile, who was consistently positive, adored Punk music and had a gift of delivering one-liners which were ridiculously funny.
However, it was his story telling ability which made him both an inspiration to his peers and incredibly popular with them. For example, a story could effectively distract a class and its intrigued teacher for an entire period (frequently). Hostel hours (and prep) similarly whiled away with his charismatic personality and extraordinary tales.
Dylan was a full time student at the University of Otago and had a clear vision and passion for his future. Not a day was wasted in his desire to take advantage of opportunities. His attitude was rather more must-do than can-do and his entrepreneurial skills were second to none. With Dylan, there was always a “plan”.
It is a testament to Dylan and the respect in which he was held by his peers that so many are making the journey to Auckland to attend his funeral. He leaves his family, friends and the College Community a legacy of living every day with enthusiasm, energy and fun.
